I agree with Richard that it is unusual and commendable to see such a thoughtful and provocative post. I'm not too bothered about length as there are plenty of lengthy wastes of time to be found.

Isn't it funny that there are less and less people consuming a range of media, and especially offline, but at the same time plenty applicants to work in PR etc. What exactly is it that makes so many think they 'get' media, when few pay actual attention to much of what's published?

Colin, thank you for providing an in-depth analysis of public relations' future. I agree that limited resources force public relations practitioners to act more strategically and return to traditional PR tactics. As my college graduation approaches in March 2010, it's helpful to understand how emerging from the recession will influence public relations.

Colin, well done, this is a very insightful post. I've recommended it to others in my latest piece "Future trends in PR? Look East!" on my PR blog:

I agree with Richard.....it made me all nostalgic for the longform blog post. It's a bit like the novel.....great when you actually get in to one but in danger of becoming a dieing form.

Blog commenting isn't so fashionable now in these Twitter-enabled, RSS scanning days.

So I wanted to say thank you for a particularly lengthy, thoughtful and provocative post (I'd not even heard of Future Files).

I look forward to seeing more of the Weber Shandwick research.
